We headed out to Tybee Island on Saturday for our first big beach day after first stopping at several places to try and find our pale-selves an umbrella. No luck until the Waves on the island and $40 some dollars later we thought we had a nice big PINK umbrella. We searched and searched for parking and Jason finally surrenders to the fact that by lunch time we WILL have to pay for parking in someones yard so we give the old lady who looks like she is about to faint in the middle of the road some money and she manages to park us in between two trees in her yard. Success! We are actually very close to the beach and we are off! We hit the sand and the first thing we notice is..... ugly water. Now I know no one should ever complain while spending their weekend at the beach, but I guess Jason and I are just plain spoiled by Emerald Isle and NC beaches. The water here is just BROWN. How can this be the same ocean we ask?? We set up shop and Jason gets to work on our umbrella which immediately almosts blows away. So that is a no-go. It was a good thing the clouds rolled in later. We sit down, open our sandwiches and beer and take in the scenery. Then we start to remember- Hey, we live here- this is not vacation! That was a pretty cool feeling! Not a bad way to spend your Saturday. We had the best time watching the cutest kids in front of us chase their blow up toys (first sighting of an alligator in Savannah), and another little boy chase his water bottle or empty soda can in the wind. He would let it roll over to Jason's feet, run over to get it, and then just laugh and laugh. He had the best time playing with TRASH! If he could have fun playing with trash, then I can definitely have fun playing in brown water.
In the video you can see how he tries to blow his bottle, gives up and just decides to throw it, and then chases after it. We nicknamed him Happy.
After we left Tybee because it started to storm that evening, we went to Josh's house for dinner and he cooked some really awesome pasta dish with bread. We visited and then went home. All in all it was a great day! Jason and I look forward to many more days spent at Tybee reading in the water and sitting on the beach feeling the wind!
